Setting You Free To Make The Right Choices
This book helped many teens in my youth group and it is just a great tool to use to get kids to grow with Christ. I wish you could see the outcome of this book in the lives of the teens in Georgia. Now we have a group called H2O (harvesting others together), it has helped many teens.

Libraries should order this book.
My question about the yellow fever epidemic in Memphis 1878 led me to Bonner's article on that topic. Fascinating stuff. Bonner wrote about many things, and this book has a thorough index. That makes it a good primary source. People in American Lit and American Studies: have your library order this book!

The Topsy-Turvy Kingdom

Authors: Dottie McDowell, Josh McDowell, Lydia Taranovic, and David N. Weiss

A Delightfully Simple Explanation of God's Values
I found this book to be a terrific conversation starter with my five year old son. The story is simple... A king, whom everyone loves, goes on sabaticle and leaves his son in charge. The people, no longer able to see the king, start to doubt if there really ever was a king. Then they start to question what is "good" and what is "bad." Much silliness follows, but a clear parallel to sin is drawn. When the son tells the people they are behaving badly, they become a mob and attack him. Dad (the king) comes home just in time to save his son, and the people realized that they had been wrong.

A sweet story for kids, Topsy Turvy Kingdom is a great introduction to religious allegory and also works well if you're looking for a resource that will help teach your kids that everyone comes under authority.

I hope your family enjoys its thought provoking discussions as much as ours did! God speed!

Traditional Storytelling Today: An International Sourcebook
Published in Hardcover by Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers (April, 1999)
Authors: Margaret Read Macdonald, John Holmes McDowell, Linda Degh, and Barre Toelken
Average review score:

A TREASURE !
Praise be to Margaret Read MacDonald for compiling these essays about contemporary storytelling around the world. Many are written by those who grew up hearing tales told around the hearth; all are solidly grounded in academic theory without (for the most part) being pedantic or jargon-y. Of special interest are the many articles about telling stories to children, a subject that has bee neglected by too many anthropologists and folklorists. Well-worth the price.

Truth and Meaning: Essays in Semantics
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (April, 1985)
Authors: Oxford Univ, Garth Evans, and John McDowell
Average review score:

Essential readings in the Philosophy of Language
This collection of papers was first published in 1976. It represents some of the best work on both Donald Davidson's suggestion that philosophical questions about meaning can be resolved by hammering out what form should be taken by a theory specifying the meanings of all the sentences in a language, and his claim that the form of such a theory will be closely related to that of Tarski style truth definitions. Since its publication many of the papers have become classics, the content of which must be mastered by anyone interested in the philosophy of language. Examples are the contributions by Davidson, Dummett, McDowell, and Evans. Note that the content of this book is quite difficult and probably penetrable only after acquaintence w/ the basics of the philosophy of language. For that a collection like Martinich's or Ludlow's along w/ Blackburn's 'Spreading the Word' should suffice.

WOW! What a great book. What great Lessons. God has truly used Josh McDowell and given him a heart for children. The book grabs the very core of what children need today....an understanding that there really is an ABSOLUTE TRUTH. The children learned how to put biblical principals into action. Every week there was another testimony from one of the students. The learnd how to make right decisions using Gods Word. This will actually be our second time putting this book into action and I am even more excited than before. Truth Works is a must for anyone trying to reach the hearts and minds of our children for Christ.

Under Siege: Demonic Forces Threaten the Liberation Commandos of Eisenhower High

Authors: Josh McDowell, Chuck Klein, and Ed Stewart
Average review score:

Under Siege
This book is great for young people. If you're a Christian, it helps you to deal with tough situations and feeling you might be feeling yourself. If you're not a Christian, it helps you to understand what it means to be a Christian and understand God's love for you. Although this book is completely fiction, it really does tap into feelings that many young people are feeling right now.
